I think that Madison is the puppy on the far left and Pandora is second from the far right, biting as usual.

Lobo Lost?

Pandora wants so much alpha play, is so "bighty" and moans and growls in her sleep like a wild beast. sometimes I wonder if she has wolf in her bloodline. I tried researching it online and really couldn't get much info. Well I got mixed info. Her, her siblings and her parents do look a lot like a breed of Shepard's I found call American Tundra, which are Wolf Hybrids, bred in the Western USA. Well I'm in Florida and their breeder is Puerto Rican with no ties I know about to The American west and I certainly haven't seen any wolves in Orlando recently, so maybe the whole suspicion is some romantic paranoia or fantasy depending how you approach it. And from what I have researched one should approach the whole Wolf Hybrid issue with great caution. First of all in many states it is illegal to own a wolf hybrid without a special license. Secondly food for thought is that man has spent thousands of years breeding the wolf out of domestic dogs why would one want to introduce it back into our furry friends? All I know is my princess Pandy likes to bite a lot and even though she stops when you say "NO".. its like an irresistible urge she has to do again and again... then the sounds she makes.. the growling howling yelping sounds sleeping and awake.. makes one wonder.

All that leads me to conclude is poor little Yoda-like peaceful Mojo, getting snapped at all day in alpha play by the she-wolf-wanna-be.

That said here is some alpha play for you to enjoy, shot this afternoon at sundown.

Here is the latest picture of Madison, Pandora's sister. Today is one ear up, one ear down day. Same thing happened to Princess Pandy but by the next day both ears were up and are staying up now.

alpha gods (dogs)

We are currently taking wagers (in the form of a radio poll) on which one of the pups will wind up becoming the ultimate alpha dog of the household. I already have my opinion on this matter, but will reserve such for a later date and time, as I am curious to hear from others who have met and maybe some who haven't met Mr. Mojo and Princess Pandora.

First, here is a little history on the whole premise of alpha dogs. In biology the term used for the highest rank in an individual animal community is alpha. In dogs, or more specifically their ancestors, wolves, alpha status is part of the social interaction of the group dictating which of the pack gets to eat first. A natural instinct in all canines, even our lovely domesticated varieties, is to try to claim this status through showing physically superiority through play-fighting (which sometimes turns to true fighting).

I will hope through this blog to keep somewhat of a scorecard about who is winning this status among the two pups by talking about some of their daily hysterical antics.

Anyway, I hope you will take a guess from reading thus far what I have written about these guys to take an educated guess who will win out in the end.

in the meantime I will also post a source of entertainment about this term through a band my teenage daughter follows... Fall Out Boy...and their version of "Alpha Dog"

Sister and cousin visit

Harley and Madison came over tonight. Pandora was do afraid of Harley she cried and cried!!! She played alot with sister Madison. Mojo wad mostly concerned with just hiding hid bones from all these doggies around today! Pandora really cried when they left. He loves his sister so much and misses Harley too, even though he is terrified of him!

I must film some video soon of mr mojo and ms pandy fighting over who gets to sleep in my "to shredder" box. mojo first laid claim to the spot but now each want to be at my feet nestled in paper ready to shred. often yelps and yips and sommersaults result in the efforts to lay claim to the venue

To kennel or not?

We just don't kennel our pups. I realize this option works for many but since I'm home I don't see sense in it. I also in my heart can't accept it as being humane . I know there are many who think the opposite. Martha Stewart doesn't kennel either .

Just what is that blue thing around Mojo's neck?

Mojo goes to the Vet at Petsmart. Just about everyone in our local petsmart including the vet nurses and groomer know Mr. Mojo by name and greet him as soon as he enters the store. He has had quite a few incidents in his two years here. He has had several rashes as he is allergic to flea bite and even though he is on flea control medicine just one bite before the flea bites it himself send Mojo into an itching frenzy. He also had a seizure when he was a few months old, it was one isolated event but never-the-less caused a visit to the vet. He has been a textbook case for the conditions that this breed can get including a corneal ulcer secondary to his inherent protruding eyes (that is why he is wearing the blue collar in the picture) and most recently he incurred a herniated disc in his spine secondary to a condition which is a very long thoracolumbar spine found in breeds such as daschunds and shitzu characterized by a very long back and short legs. This anatomy often causes early and progressive degenerative disc disease or drying out of the disc between the vertebrae of the spine. About 6 weeks ago, just a few weeks before the scheduled arrival of our newest puppy, mojo began having severe symptoms of pain and inability to jump up or down from furniture, the car etc. Just touching him caused him to cry out in excruciating pain. A trip to the vet and some xrays confirmed that he had a pinched nerve due to a herniated disc caused by DDD (degenerative disc disease). They were quite honest with us an informed us that if medicine didn't work he would need to see a spinal surgeon for surgery!. He wasp laced on complete bed rest (kennel rest) and placed on a steroid and a muscle relaxant. Thank goodness in just a couple of days his symptoms completely disappeared. We need to be forever aware though that he had this incidient and that it could re-occur at anytime therefore he is never allowed again to jump from heights as herniated discs in these breeds can often lead to paralysis. We got lucky this time!

So Mojo has earned his reputation with lots of battle scars for such a little guy so when the groomer or vet nurse or any of the dozens of Petsmarts employees say loud and cheerfully... "Hi Mojo, how are you today?" and you just happen to be the owner of a lesser known canine in the vicinity of Petsmart in Waterford Lakes, don't get insulted. They know him for a reason. Just consider that and hope they don't get to know your pup that well !

Welcome to my doggie-dog world.

I've decided to start this to blog about my dogs that I have the pleasure of being around 24x7. I work from home and even when all humans leave, I have them here with me, all the time. Their antics keep me entertained and even quite flustered sometimes. My darling doggies include; Ginger, a 17 year old-old-old Wheaten Terrier mix who loves to roll around in any patch of dirt she can find when not still chasing squirrels round the trees, a two year old fierce and mighty 10 lb Shih tzu named Mojo and our newest puppy a 8 week old very mischievous and very, very,very vocal female German Shepard named Pandora (Pandy for short.) They each have their unique personality and each try to capture my attention in their own way. What is sometimes most entertaining is their interaction which each other.

My dogs also have doggie relatives that come to visit that include my son's 2 year old Husky/Lab mix named Harley Davidson (we just calls him Harley) and my daughter's 8 week old Shepard pup and sister of Pandora, Madison or Maddy for short. My son has been able to offer Harley a full and normal live despite a rare and sometimes deadly medical condition. (I will discuss this condition in future blog posts). We also this year lost a beloved family pet, my daughter's Rottweiler/Shepard mixed named Zoe to a long unexplained illness when she was only 8 years old. We all will remember her for ever and ever. Harley and Maddie live together on the other side of town but love to pay us visits. I hope this blog will be able to document the lives of these most curious creatures and the impact each of them has made on our family and all of the human species that come in contact with them.
